Dear colleagues,
I thank you all for your participation this House and, increasingly, for the support continue to give us. I also thank those who are absent, many called me apologizing, and I can hardly understand them. Even today many of them are engaged in the race: we have a calendar that does not give us pause.

A special welcome goes to our Honorary President, Niccolo Perno, who has just turned 97 years, and would certainly be welcome among us. He is not possible, and we understand why. But I salute you and always remember him with affection.

But first I want to remember our colleagues died recently, but still alive in our memory. We know how much love and passion they put into their work, and we join the regret of their students, in memory: after Armand Ruffo Giuseppe Zumbo and junior, have left us in recent months also Carlo Zumbo and Joseph Talarico.

The courses have always been a great success, but unfortunately almost the only opportunities for training, we would like to do more, but it must be said that the main obstacle, after the economy, is the difficulty of identifying periods free from commitments fencing. Stanno dando frutti, anche se non dovunque allo stesso modo, i corsi regionali e quelli per animatori, dopo il decentramento. Il numero di tecnici è in aumento, con beneficio delle sale di scherma: ce ne accorgiamo agli esami, quando siamo in difficoltà per l’elevato numero dei richiedenti. Qualche problema c’è per la qualità, che non può migliorare se non con un costante e qualificato tirocinio.
Oltre ai corsi ordinari, abbiamo organizzato corsi di specializzazione, o stage di aggiornamento. An interesting experiment, regardless of which could have happened, is the proposal of a fencing master at the University of Cassino, where I was invited to speak at the opening of the academic year. The History of Fencing Prof. William Gaugler, Fencing Master degree at the American NSA, will be the reference text for a new subject, which we must add to those that form the cultural background of the teacher. The translation, initially, as for many other texts and treatises, was a diploma thesis: in this case, the teacher Roberta Giussani, who then completed and perfected the work. The newsletter is a quarterly basis, despite the earlier decision to make it annual. We considered it unnecessary to give a more precise our presence, even to help support our Federation, at a time is not easy.

Procede a rilento anche il settore della Scherma Storica, che sembra suscitare sempre maggiore interesse nella base, dentro e fuori il nostro mondo; e, proporzionalmente, altrettanto timore di coinvolgimento nella dirigenza federale. Insisteremo, anche se, non cesso di ricordarlo, la Fis ha fra i suoi doveri statutari (art. 1, 1° capoverso) quello di “... praticare, promuovere, sviluppare e diffondere la disciplina della scherma in tutte le sue forme.”
Fra le questioni that remain open, and we expect a reply by the FIS, the federal body technician, or AIMS, which has been artificially opposed in the past, the technical list. We have taken all the steps, including statutory, to dissolve any remaining nodes, and allow for a single membership, which does not discriminate, in fact, those who subscribe to AIMS. Now we wait for the FIS, whose elected leaders had included this issue in the election program, and hope. But there are positive signs in this regard.
The two-year, marking the end of our mandate is, in my wishes and my hopes, a period of elaboration of the role and prospects of the Association.
Molte barriere sono cadute, il mondo cambia sempre più rapidamente, e anche noi dobbiamo saper stare al passo, rinnovandoci profondamente: al nostro interno, e con la collaborazione della Fis, di cui siamo parte. Questo sarà possibile solo con la vostra partecipazione. E’ un invito che rivolgo soprattutto ai giovani, da cui dipende il nostro futuro, e quello della scherma. Fate che la mia speranza si trasformi in realtà.
