The pajaras are a feature of the rural landscape of Salento. They are similar to the trulli and nuraghi, but with special features, such as construction of the peasants come to their rest during the working day, as a refuge for the bad days of fall and winter or as a summer retreat for the whole family. The pajaras , constructed with the technique of "drywall" , often in the shape of a cone are closed at the top by a large slab of stone, which is accessed through a series of steps places one of exterior walls of the building. These rural households, very important in the past, are now almost completely abandoned. In recent years, because they characterize our environment, were valued for their historical importance and for their artistic beauty.
