The Aims of Turin to the World

Within the space for the FIS will also provide space for AIMS, with books, magazines and alia, to publicize the activities of our Association: that, apparently, is among the most efficient ed organizzate Associazioni di tecnici, e non solo nel mondo della scherma.
Silvio Longhi, che molti ricorderanno per il suo ottimo lavoro sul trattato of Docciolini (published dall'Aims), has perfected the act of donation to Pro Patria its fine collection of weapons, pictures and accessories fencing. The Pro Patria, through its President, Cav. Cesare Vago, in agreement with the World Cup Organizing Committee, and the Province of Turin, has made available all the precious material for an exhibition of great interest, that theme will be: "From the duel sport - The touch of the sword" . Weapons, and even more rare
related equipment (Piastroni, masks, gloves), relate to the period of transition. Another room in the Palace of the Province (Palazzo Cisterna, Via Maria Vittoria 12, Torino) will be devoted exhibition of documents and memorabilia belonging to some great champions of our fencing Anglesio George, Irene Camber, Edoardo Mangiarotti, Vannetti Masciotta, Antonio Spallino, and families and Filogamo Delfino.
will be printed with the financial contribution of Panathlon International, a beautiful catalog with contributions on the theme of William B. Gaugler, our honorary member, emeritus professor of classical art and archeology at the University of San Jose, California; George Dondero, president of the Accademia di San Marciano, who worked for the ancient weapons of various museums, including the Armoury Reale in Turin, and myself. Space permitting, maybe on an upcoming issue of the newsletter, will report in full action. The catalog can be downloaded from dell'Aims.
I propose, here are some pictures taken from the catalog, in the hope your visit.

From the duel Sports - The Touch of Passion Diary

From duel sport - The touch of the sword
It 's the title of the exhibition that traces the development of fencing and will be held from 28 September to 7 October in the historic seat of the Province of Turin in collaboration with the organizing committee of the World Fencing Championships.
An exhibition featuring weapons, including those used during the Savoy Battle of Solferino and the collection of knives from private collections and from that of the Italian Fencing, else, masks, clothing and vintage prints.

For the first time a part of the collection is on exhibit at Longhi, during a rare event fencing, such as the World Fencing Championship in Italy.
I am grateful to Dr. Silvio Longhi, who gave the valuable pieces collected in years of dedicated research and deep study, and the Pro Patria Fencing Busto Arsizio, the recipient and custodian of this first group, which has a special interest. Weapons and accessories concern, in fact, precisely the period of transition between the screens il duello sul terreno e quella agonistica.
Ma è giusto qui emphasize one aspect of the collection, making it perhaps unique in the world. The presence of additional materials in good condition-masks, Piastroni gloves - which, for its shelf-life, is surely destined to lose. I do not remember ever having seen elsewhere, so well-preserved pieces.
We can thus realize the fervor of fencing of an era, the one between the second half of the nineteenth and early twentieth century, in which flowers are beautiful treaties - the Masaniello Parise, among them, in 1884, official text of the Italian Scuola Magistrale Militare glorious - and have had their period of glory, many manufacturers of many models of weapons and accessories, fencing, in a laborious and continuous search for improvement.
Maybe not at all interested in this opportunity to launch a fleeting look at the history of our beloved sport. But for years there has been a commendable trend reversal, the FIS and the Aims need and want to encourage. The roots of our sport are deep and strong, but every time we need to rediscover and remember to young people, because they are aware of the beauty and nobility of the sport they choose.
would therefore like to thank in particular the Organizing Committee of the World Fencing Championship in Turin in 2006, who had the sensitivity to recognize the value of this opportunity, and he worked to achieve it.
Finally, thanks and praise to two young fencers and trainers Cammilletti Marta and Andrea Cavalli, who have worked hard in the work of cataloging, and will communicate to visitors the excitement and interest that first experienced.
